Ingredients:
- 1 box of chocolate cake mix
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup whole milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Red food coloring
- Yellow food coloring
- Black food coloring
- Mini marshmallows
- Red decorating gel
- Fire truck cupcake toppers optional
Instructions:
Preheat your oven according to the cake mix package instructions
Prepare the cake mix as directed on the package
Line a cupcake pan with cupcake liners
Fill each cupcake liner 2/3 full with the prepared cake batter
Bake the cupcakes according to the package instructions and let them cool completely
In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth
Divide the frosting into three bowls
Leave one bowl white, tint one bowl red with red food coloring, and tint the third bowl black with black food coloring
Spread a thin layer of white frosting on each cupcake
Using red frosting, create the fire trucks body shape on top of each cupcake, leaving space for the windows and details
Use black frosting to pipe on the windows, wheels, and any other desired details
Place a mini marshmallow on top of each cupcake as the siren light
Add a dab of red decorating gel to the marshmallow to create a blinking light effect
If desired, top each cupcake with a fire truck cupcake topper for added decoration
Allow the cupcakes to set and the frosting to firm up before serving
